About the Role
We are currently seeking a hands-on Team Leader - Health Technology Operations to join our Clinical Engineering team at the Christchurch Health Campus. In this pivotal leadership position, you will oversee multi-disciplinary teams dedicated to delivering safe, efficient, and reliable medical equipment and systems that support frontline healthcare services.
As the Team Leader, you will manage the day-to-day operational delivery of Health Technology Management (HTM) services throughout the equipment lifecycle, which includes procurement, installation, maintenance, and decommissioning. You will actively engage in hands-on work, utilizing your clinical engineering expertise while also guiding and developing your team.
In this role, you will collaborate with various departments to ensure that medical devices and systems are safe, functional, compliant, and readily available—ultimately supporting clinicians in their delivery of high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a multi-disciplinary clinical engineering team in providing HTM services.
- Offer expert guidance on the full lifecycle of health technology, including acquisition, calibration, performance checks, repairs, decontamination, decommissioning, and disposal.
- Coordinate the onboarding, configuration, commissioning, and maintenance of medical equipment and systems.
- Ensure compliance with New Zealand regulations, safety standards, and cybersecurity requirements for devices.
- Manage safety alerts, recalls, incident investigations, and risk mitigation efforts.
- Promote innovation, continuous improvement, and cost-efficiency across operations.
- Enhance team capacity and support workforce development and retention strategies.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and national HTM partners.
- Maintain high-quality service delivery, oversee KPI tracking, and manage contracts effectively.
- Provide strategic and operational leadership, including budgeting and planning.
What You Will Bring
Essential:
- A tertiary qualification in Clinical or Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, or a related scientific field, or extensive leadership-level clinical engineering experience.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in clinical engineering, including at least 2 years in a leadership, supervisory, or mentoring role.
- Deep knowledge of health technology and clinical engineering operations.
- Proven ability to lead and develop technical teams while delivering complex services.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Registration with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) as an Electrical Appliance Serviceperson with a Medical endorsement (or willingness to obtain within 24 months).
- A full New Zealand Driver's License.
- An understanding of and the ability to apply Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in a health setting.
- Proficiency in English (IELTS 6.0 or higher with no band below 5.5).
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualifications in Health Technology Management or Business.
- Knowledge of accreditation, audit, and performance measurement frameworks.
- Experience in 24/7 healthcare environments and national-level HTM collaboration.
