About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Pharmacist for Medicine Information to join our Quality and Safe Use of Medicines Team at Waikato Hospital. In this permanent, full-time position, you will play a crucial role in delivering and developing our medicines information service. Your clinical expertise will be invaluable as you respond to medicine queries and promote safe medicine use throughout our organization.
This position may also include a small clinical (ward-based) component, offering an opportunity for those currently in a dedicated medicines information role or those looking to specialize in this area. Key Responsibilities
- Research and respond to medicine information queries from a variety of health professionals.
- Lead the development of our medicines information service.
- Contribute to other medicines management, medication safety, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with fellow Health New Zealand medicines information pharmacists.
- Mentor and train pharmacists, intern pharmacists, and students.
About the Team/Service
Our Pharmacy Services at Waikato Hospital provide comprehensive services not only to the hospital but also to six smaller rural hospitals and care units throughout the Waikato region. The pharmacy service is organized into five distinct areas: Clinical Services, Dispensary and Supply, Oncology, Haematology and Compounding Service, Quality and Safe Use of Medicines (QSUM), and our onsite community pharmacy service, Pharmacy on Meade.
As a member of the QSUM team, you will also collaborate with pharmacy staff across the other teams, contributing to the in-patient dispensary as needed, with occasional involvement in weekend rosters.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will need the following skills and experience:
Essential:
- Registration with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand.
- A current annual practising certificate with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand, or the ability to register following a required period of supervision.
Highly Desirable:
- At least 3 to 5 years of post-registration pharmacy experience, with a minimum of three years in a hospital setting.
- Experience in providing medicines information.
- Involvement in medicine safety initiatives.
- A post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Experience in leading or training others.
