Cellar Hand and Laboratory Technician About the Company At Mt. Beautiful, we are a distinguished, family-owned winery located in the heart of North Canterbury. Since the establishment of our state-of-the-art winery in 2015, we have been dedicated to crafting exceptional wines sourced from our 80 hectares of estate vineyards. As we look ahead to 2026, we anticipate processing approximately 750 tonnes of premium fruit, including varieties such as Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Chardonnay. About the Role We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional with experience in both cellar and laboratory environments. This position will involve a balanced focus of approximately 60% on cellar duties and 40% on laboratory tasks. As a hands-on role, you will actively participate in the daily operations of both the cellar and laboratory. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours of work per week from Monday to Friday, with shifts during our annual harvesting period. You will report directly to the winemaker for your daily responsibilities. Key Responsibilities - Promote safe work practices and continuously strive for improvements to enhance cellar and laboratory operations and efficiencies. - Ensure product quality is maintained throughout all cellar and laboratory processes. - Collaborate effectively as both an individual contributor and as part of a team. Requirements The ideal candidate will possess: - Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. - A minimum of 2 years of experience in a cellar, lab, or winery setting throughout a calendar year. - The ability to operate winery machinery independently. - Competence in performing wet chemistry analyses, including TA, pH, SO2, and enzymatic analysis. - The capability to independently make and standardize winery laboratory solutions. - A reasonable level of fitness to meet the physical demands of the role. - A willingness to work flexible hours during peak periods. - Commitment to maintaining cleanliness and organization in work areas. - Adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and health and safety protocols.
