About the Role We are excited to announce an opportunity to join our Biosecurity team as a Biosecurity Field Operator based in Kaikoura. Our team is recognized as an industry leader in implementing and managing rural pest management programs. We aim to maintain a sustainable pest control industry by hiring the right individuals, equipping them with the necessary resources, and supporting their growth through continuous training and development. In this role, you will have the chance to combine your passion for the outdoors with a rewarding career. Your primary responsibilities will include trapping, baiting, surveying, and monitoring pest animals such as possums, rabbits, and ferrets. You will also manage pest plants including gorse, broom, and wilding pines. While your home base will be in Kaikoura, your work will take you to various locations, and accommodation will be provided unless you are operating directly from the depot. Requirements We are looking for a self-motivated, fit, and energetic individual who thrives both independently and as part of a small team. A strong focus on safety and risk management is essential, particularly when working in the field for extended periods. Proficiency in using GPS and handheld recording devices is required, along with the ability to maintain accurate records. Given that much of the work will take place on farmland, a solid understanding of animal behaviors, either through leisure activities or prior experience in a rural environment, is crucial. To be successful in this role, you should possess the following: - A Class 1 driver's license - Experience operating a 4WD and/or Light Utility Vehicle is highly desirable - A strong commitment to health and safety practices - Willingness to work away from home for extended periods (accommodation and other benefits will be provided) Additional qualifications that would be beneficial include: - First aid certificate - Controlled Substance Licence or Approved Handler Certificate - Growsafe Certificate - NZQA Unit standards in 4WD, LUV, Motorcycle, or Chainsaw use While previous experience in pest operations is preferred, we are open to training the right candidate, especially those who may have lapsed qualifications or knowledge gaps.
