About the Role
We are seeking a Mental Health Assistant to join our team at the Older Persons' Mental Health Inpatient Unit located in Alexandra Hospital, Richmond. In this role, you will provide basic nursing care under the supervision and direction of Registered Nurses. Your responsibilities may include working with patients who exhibit challenging behaviors.
This position is casual and requires flexibility, as you will be covering staff leave and periods of peak service demand. You should be prepared to work a variety of shifts, including mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends, and school holidays. While some scheduling will be available for planned leave, short notice shifts may also be necessary.
About the Team/Location
Our Older Persons' Mental Health Inpatient Unit is dedicated to delivering psychiatric and geriatric care to older members of our community. We aim to provide high-quality inpatient care for patients facing acute mental health challenges and/or complex age-related health conditions. Our approach involves collaboration with patients, their families, clinical teams, and community support systems to achieve optimal health outcomes.
About You
Ideal candidates will hold eligibility to work in New Zealand or possess a valid New Zealand visa at the time of application. We are looking for individuals with strong communication skills and experience in older persons' healthcare, as well as a genuine affinity for working with the elderly. It is essential that you demonstrate flexibility, work methodically, and exhibit honesty and reliability while exercising appropriate initiative.
Qualifications
Required qualifications include:
Essential:
- Year 11 NCEA Level 1 English (or equivalent)
- Year 11 NCEA Level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
Preferred:
- NZQA Level 3 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand (or equivalent)
