About the Role
We are excited to announce that Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti is now accepting applications for a non-training registrar position within our Obstetric and Gynaecological Department at Gisborne Hospital. Our vision, "Working together for a Healthier Tairawhiti," highlights our commitment to fostering a supportive team environment. You will be collaborating with our dedicated Obstetricians, House Officers, and various multi-disciplinary teams.
As an obstetric and gynaecological registrar, you will have the opportunity to enhance your skills in Women's Health. Our department is comprised of six Consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, along with specialized nursing staff. Your responsibilities will include participation in acute admissions, maternity care, theatre operations, and outpatient clinic management, allowing you to gain exposure to a wide array of medical presentations and procedures. We also offer numerous educational opportunities, including journal club meetings, protected teaching sessions, and clinical skills workshops.
About the Team/Service/Location
The Obstetric and Gynaecological service at Hauora Tairawhiti is a small but dynamic team seeking an enthusiastic registrar to join our ranks. In this role, you will work closely with fellow team members to deliver effective healthcare services to the Tairawhiti region. Our department operates in a hospital setting and provides a mix of inpatient, emergency, and outpatient services, managing approximately 700 births annually.
Gisborne Hospital is a 110-bed acute care facility that serves a diverse geographical area within Tairawhiti, extending along the East Cape of New Zealand. This environment offers a unique range of experiences for a motivated registrar. Our health services are well-supported locally by comprehensive surgical capabilities and a full suite of diagnostic facilities, including a new MRI and CT scanner. We maintain strong connections with our tertiary referral center in Waikato.
Situated on the eastern coast of New Zealand's North Island, Gisborne, known as Tairawhiti, is the first city in the world to greet the rising sun each day. The region is renowned for its golden sandy beaches, lush mountains, fertile farmlands, significant historical landmarks, and a deep connection to Māori culture. Residents enjoy a pleasant climate, short commutes, and a relaxed lifestyle that promotes a desirable work-life balance.
At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti, we are focused on enhancing collaboration, strengthening leadership, and improving equity of access and health outcomes. We are shifting our emphasis toward primary and community care, allowing more people to receive care close to home and take an active role in their health and well-being.
Our values, encapsulated in the acronym WAKA, reflect our voyaging heritage and guide our journey toward a healthier Tairawhiti:
