Our Initial Teacher Education team, part of Te Whanau o Ako Pai - School of Education, plays a vital role in shaping the future of education in New Zealand. About the Role We are currently seeking a Pukenga/Pukenga Matua - Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to join our Initial Teacher Education team. This is a permanent, full-time position set to commence in late January 2026. In this role, you will have the opportunity to teach graduate and postgraduate courses within the Primary Initial Teacher Education programmes. You may also contribute to the Secondary Initial Teacher Education programmes as needed. Your responsibilities will include visiting Student Teachers during their Professional Practice Placements in schools, seeking external research funding, and recruiting and supervising Masters and PhD students focusing on research topics related to mathematics teaching and learning in the school sector. Additionally, we expect you to contribute to leadership in the profession, the University, the Faculty, and the School, as well as engage in scholarly and administrative services. About You The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the bicultural nature of New Zealand education. You should hold relevant academic qualifications and a New Zealand-recognized teaching qualification. We value experience in primary teaching mathematics and/or primary mathematics teacher education. We encourage applications from individuals with expertise in culturally sustaining and enhancing practices, matauranga Maori, and those who have worked with Pacific communities and tamariki. Key requirements include: - Completion or nearing completion of a PhD in Education - Experience in and knowledge of the science of learning and structured numeracy in primary school teaching - Specialization in applied research related to primary mathematics education and/or teacher education in the area of primary mathematics - Registration and certification (or eligibility for registration and certification) with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand - Ability to effectively engage and mentor students from diverse backgrounds - Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively in a team - Contribution to the delivery of the Primary Initial Teacher Education programmes - Evidence of commitment to our obligations to Te Tiriti o Waitangi within an academic and professional context Our School of Education is dedicated to research and teaching that engages with matauranga Maori and reflects the bicultural foundations of Aotearoa New Zealand.
