About the Company
At Health New Zealand - South Canterbury, we take pride in delivering high-quality healthcare across the South Canterbury region. Timaru Hospital, with its 131 beds, serves a diverse population of approximately 50,000. Our facility is currently undergoing a significant refurbishment to enhance our critical 24/7 services, which include Emergency Department, Intensive Care, General and Orthopaedic Surgery, Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Oncology, Palliative Care, Internal Medicine, and Paediatrics. The Kensington Centre, located adjacent to the main hospital, provides specialized inpatient and community mental health and addiction services.
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Psychiatrist to join our Mental Health and Addictions Service. In this role, you will provide quality specialist psychiatry services across Inpatient, Community, and Addictions teams, collaborating with our skilled Nursing and Allied Health staff. Your responsibilities will include supporting clients through acute care and on-call work, all based at Timaru Hospital.

We are looking for a psychiatrist who can bring their clinical expertise to our services, which are recognized as a priority need area by both the government and the general public. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as maintaining positive working relationships with colleagues from various disciplines is critical to our success.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, you should be an experienced psychiatrist eligible for Vocational Registration with the New Zealand Medical Council or a Fellow of the Australasian College of Psychiatrists (or equivalent).

Salary Range
This position is governed by the terms and conditions of the Senior Medical Officers Collective Agreement. The salary will be determined in accordance with the pay scale and will depend on relevant experience.
