We are a leading online marketplace, and our team is dedicated to innovation and collaboration. As we continue to grow, we are seeking talented individuals who share our values and vision. About the Role We are looking for a motivated Lead Software Engineer to join our expanding Property team. This is a permanent position where you will play a crucial role in shaping the technical direction of our projects and mentoring a skilled team of engineers. In this role, you will provide direct support to the Property Engineering team while collaborating on significant projects. Collaboration will be key as you work with Principal Software Engineers and Product Owners to develop and implement technical roadmaps. You will also engage with product development teams to effectively communicate technical innovations and contribute to Trade Me’s governance processes. Mentoring is an essential part of this role. You will guide junior engineers, providing constructive feedback to support their career progression. You will embed within software delivery teams to plan, develop, test, and release complex solutions, while collaboratively managing and reducing technical debt. Additionally, you will implement and maintain plans for your platform's Service Level Objectives (SLOs). Requirements The ideal candidate will bring the following qualifications to our team: - A minimum of 2 years' experience in similar tech lead roles - Strong software development skills, particularly in C# - Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies is preferred, though not mandatory - A deep understanding of software development principles, architecture, design patterns, and modern technologies - Strong technical knowledge for designing scalable, reliable, and maintainable applications - Proven ability to mentor and support junior engineers, fostering their professional growth - Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders - Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, even under tight deadlines - Openness to adopting new tools and methodologies to enhance the platform's capabilities - Practical working knowledge of technologies and practices relevant to Trade Me's technical strategy Benefits At Trade Me, we offer a range of benefits to support our employees: - Flexible work options, including part-time work, job sharing, and flexible hours, to help you achieve a healthy work-life balance. This includes a home office setup and utilities allowance. - Comprehensive parental leave policies to support families. - Dedicated 10% Learning & Development time for ongoing learning and skill enhancement. - Access to wellness resources prioritizing your physical and mental wellbeing. - A strong social culture, featuring company-paid shared lunches, regular social events, annual awards, employee networking groups, and social sports clubs. Our Commitment to Diversity We believe that diversity drives progress. To address the existing inequality for women in technical leadership, we are applying a preference for women when filling this role. The successful candidate will need to meet the core criteria for the position, and we will also consider broader factors such as skills, experience, future potential, and the unique contributions you can make at Trade Me. We understand that some candidates may hesitate to apply if they do not meet every requirement. If you are excited about this opportunity, we encourage you to submit your resume along with a brief cover note explaining your interest. Trade Me is an INZ accredited employer. We truly value diversity and promote a flexible workplace where individuals are encouraged to reach their full potential.
