About the Team/Service/Location
The Regional Rehabilitation and Extended Care Service operates as a 24-hour inpatient service at Ratonga Rua Hospital. The facility comprises two inpatient units and seven cottages, providing both long-term care in the Tawhirimatea Unit and intensive rehabilitation in the Tane Mahuta Unit, all within secure and open settings. The service accommodates 63 inpatient beds, with some located in purpose-built cottages.
Our primary focus is on recovery and rehabilitation, offering clients opportunities to develop new skills, gain independence, and empower them for community living. We collaborate with other elements within the hospital, including programs at the Tangaroa Activity Centre and cultural services like Ruaumoko and Vaka Ole Pasifika, as well as community resources and organizations. Both units offer individualized recovery programs in safe and supportive environments.
The Tawhirimatea unit consists of 29 beds designated for safe care, while the Tane Mahuta unit has 34 beds for open inpatient rehabilitation services, catering to individuals within the Central Regional Forensic and Rehabilitation Services. Our innovative and supportive service employs a multidisciplinary team approach to assist clients on their recovery journey.
The Clinical Psychology team at Tane Mahuta includes an experienced consultant and a current vacancy for another Clinical Psychologist to join us.
