    About the Company Waimea Nurseries is one of New Zealand's largest nurseries, specializing in the growth of fruit trees for orchardists as well as fruit, ornamental, and berry plants for garden retailers. Established in 1971, our nursery spans over 250 hectares, featuring both field and container tree production. Located just 10 minutes from Richmond on the Waimea Plains, we pride ourselves on fostering a vibrant work culture that encourages growth and development within the business. About the Role We are excited to announce an opening for a new Second-in-Charge (2IC) within our team. In this role, you will play an integral part in cultivating our exceptional trees amidst the picturesque Waimea Plains. Your primary responsibility will be to take a hands-on leadership approach, guiding our production team through various tasks throughout the year. As the 2IC, you will ensure that all activities are conducted efficiently, punctually, and to our high standards. This is an entry-level leadership position that values enthusiasm, strong interpersonal skills, and a down-to-earth attitude. We are looking for someone who is eager to train others, helping them reach their full potential. For the right candidate, we offer leadership training as well as opportunities for career advancement and salary progression. The ideal candidate will have some experience in a leadership role, a passion for outdoor work, and a sense of pride in achieving tangible results. While a background in horticulture or agriculture is beneficial, we provide comprehensive training for the right individual. Requirements - Ideally possess experience in a leadership position or a willingness to undergo training - Demonstrate high attention to detail - Exhibit excellent people skills with the ability to train and supervise others - Enjoy working outdoors and maintain reasonable physical fitness - Show confidence in managing paperwork and quality documentation - Hold a current, full New Zealand driver’s license - Have experience operating horticultural machinery and vehicles, or be willing to learn Benefits At Waimea Nurseries, we offer a unique, friendly, and supportive workplace culture, grounded in our family-oriented business structure.
