Description
About the Company
C3 Limited is a market leader in New Zealand's port-related product and cargo handling industry. With a dedicated team of over 1,200 staff across 11 locations, we pride ourselves on adding value to our clients' businesses by providing effective solutions to their transport and logistics needs.
About the Role
We are currently looking to expand our pool of straddle drivers and invite experienced heavy machinery operators to apply. Candidates must hold a minimum full Class 1 driver licence. As a straddle driver, you will operate straddle cranes to stack and move shipping containers at the Sulphur Point Container Terminal. While prior experience as a straddle driver is not required, we provide comprehensive training to successful candidates who demonstrate the necessary skills.
The position comes with a starting rate of $30.00 per hour during the training period. This is a permanent role with a guaranteed minimum of 40 hours per week. Candidates should be flexible with their availability, as our operations run 24/7. Shifts typically range from 6 to 12 hours and may require you to work both night and day shifts. Please note that due to the unpredictability of shipping schedules, hours may vary.
To succeed as a straddle driver, you should possess a calm demeanor and be comfortable working independently. Your work environment is a small cab elevated 11 meters above the ground, and you will need to climb a ladder for breaks, with communication primarily conducted via radio.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating heavy machinery
- Comfort working at heights
- Flexibility and reliability in scheduling
- Strong communication skills
- Effective time management and the ability to work unsupervised
- Capability to meet deadlines
- Willingness to adhere to standard operating procedures
- Strict commitment to all health and safety protocols
- Minimum of a full Class 1 driver licence
Benefits
At C3, we offer competitive pay rates and opportunities for career development. Shortlisted applicants will be required to demonstrate their skills in a simulator. Successful candidates must also pass a pre-employment medical assessment, a drug and alcohol screening, and criminal record checks.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please include a copy of your driver licence (front and back) with your application. We look forward to hearing from you.
