About the Role We are currently seeking a Moving and Handling and Injury Prevention Coordinator to join our Occupational Health Unit at Taranaki Base Hospital. This is a fixed-term position at 0.8 FTE, lasting until June 30, 2025. In this role, you will play a crucial part in enhancing the safety and wellbeing of our staff and patients through effective moving and handling interventions. Key responsibilities of this position include: - Implementing the national Moving and Handling Policy across the Taranaki District - Developing and executing a risk-based programme plan for Moving and Handling - Educating staff on safe and appropriate moving and handling practices - Collaborating with nurse educators and coaches to facilitate department-based training and ensure staff competencies are met - Providing consultation and advice on moving and handling hazards and developing problem-solving controls - Contributing to recommendations for cost-effective capital expenditure related to equipment and infrastructure aimed at managing moving and handling hazards About the Team/Service/Location You will be part of a supportive and welcoming team within our local, regional, and national occupational health services, which are currently undergoing a transition into a new occupational health structure. You will have access to guidance from the National Lead for Moving and Handling, as well as the wider interdisciplinary team covering all regions. About You To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following requirements: - You are a registered health professional in New Zealand with a current practicing certificate. - You have experience in occupational health and safety practices, along with knowledge of injury prevention, moving and handling principles, and health risk management. - You possess a solid understanding of moving and handling techniques applicable in both clinical and non-clinical environments. - You can work autonomously and collaboratively within a team and the broader organization. - You have experience in delivering education to adults and implementing effective learning strategies adaptable to various work environments. - You demonstrate strong organizational and prioritization skills, along with the ability to adjust to changing workflows and service priorities. - You have a track record of successfully implementing projects that yield positive outcomes.
