About the Role
We are currently seeking a dynamic Sustainability Manager to lead the implementation of green initiatives across our transport and infrastructure projects. This part-time position offers 20 hours of work per week and is based in our Penrose office. Reporting to the Contract Manager, you will play a crucial role in providing sustainability leadership for our Auckland Transport Maintenance contracts.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Targeting zero waste in line with the waste hierarchy through effective waste minimization, circular economy solutions, and maximizing recycling and reuse.
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through operations and material use.
- Implementing energy-saving measures to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
- Reducing water consumption during maintenance activities.
- Enhancing the livelihoods of individuals from targeted groups through improved employment opportunities, training, and wage enhancements.
- Increasing access for diverse suppliers, including Māori and Pasifika-owned businesses.
- Offering technical advice on projects and long-term maintenance contracts in compliance with Federal and State approvals and licenses.
- Reviewing and advising on environmental monitoring programs and results.
- Traveling to sites as necessary to support project initiatives.
- Developing and maintaining the Environmental Management Plan and Recycled First Plan initiatives.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following criteria:
- A tertiary qualification (degree) in Environmental Science, Engineering, Energy Management, Sustainability, or a related field.
- A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in environmental management, with a preference for experience in road construction and/or maintenance environments.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and other applications for data analysis and communication.
- The ability to quickly learn new software applications.
- A current driver's license.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
- High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Effective planning, time management, and organizational skills.
