About the Company
Bathurst Resources is New Zealand’s largest specialist coal producer, operating four local coal mines. We produce over 2.2 million tonnes of coal annually and proudly employ more than 550 people. Approximately 80 percent of our production is utilized for steelmaking by both local and international steel manufacturers. Additionally, our high-quality thermal-grade coal fuels many well-known food and dairy businesses in New Zealand.
Our Stockton Mine, located close to the coast in the Buller coalfield, is the largest opencast mine in New Zealand, with a rich history of high-value coal production. About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Surveyor, you will be instrumental in delivering high-quality surveying services while collaborating closely with our technical services and production teams. The current work roster is Monday to Friday. We are looking for candidates with a formal technical qualification and experience in GPS and survey equipment.
Your main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Setting out surveys for mine development, exploration drilling, and civil works projects.
- Conducting topographical and as-built surveys using site equipment (GNSS, drone, scanner, total station) and providing survey data to meet operational requirements.
- Updating survey databases and maintaining the integrity of digital survey records.
- Communicating with the Technical and Operating Departments to ensure all production and development requirements are met.
- Providing accurate and timely End-Of-Month surveys and reporting.
- Interpreting designs and providing survey control for all mining-related activities, civil works, and incident reporting.
- Monitoring ground and wall movement for geotechnical reporting.
- Performing design conformance checks and volumetric calculations.
- Maintaining survey equipment.

- A Bachelor of Surveying (BSurv), Survey Diploma, or a comparable qualification.
- Proven surveying experience.
- Confidence in driving off-road and 4WD vehicles.
- Intermediate computer literacy.
- A dedication to providing high-quality service.
