About the Company
At Trade Me, we are dedicated to connecting Kiwis and empowering them to create the life they desire. Whether it's significant milestones like finding a home, securing a job, purchasing a car, or growing a business, or smaller tasks such as locating the perfect bedside table or selling unused items, we strive to be the first place Kiwis turn to for their needs.
About the Role
We are expanding our Platform Engineering team and currently hiring for several Technical Product Owner positions. These roles are available for immediate start, with one permanent position and two fixed-term roles for one year, with the potential to extend to two years. The positions can be based in either Wellington or Auckland.
The Technical Product Owner plays a vital leadership role and serves as a key advocate for customers and products within our Platform Engineering squads. By taking strong ownership of outcomes, you will ensure that teams focus on the right priorities, lead critical trade-off decisions based on value and impact, and are accountable for delivering meaningful results that enhance our key metrics. In this role, you will collaborate closely with teams to prioritize and refine the roadmap and backlog, manage dependencies, and maintain the robustness, resilience, and stability of our systems.
Here is what you can expect from these roles:
- Facilitate the definition of the platform goals and strategy, including guiding principles, outcomes, and opportunities, while fostering a product mindset.
- Build, maintain, and own a value-driven and flexible product roadmap to achieve the platform strategy, while managing complex dependencies and competing priorities.
- Act as the central point of contact between the business and the squads, determining how to maximize value and mitigate risks.
- Balance value, viability, feasibility, and usability, taking accountability for the short-term roadmap and committed outcomes of product delivery.
- Monitor, measure, and evaluate the health, performance, and user experience of your products, while supporting and prioritizing continuous improvements.
Requirements
To succeed in our team, you should bring the following qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience leading Product Engineering teams in an agile development environment, delivering successful outcomes and possessing a solid understanding of product, design, and engineering practices.
- A proven track record of developing flexible, value-driven product roadmaps that clarify objectives, take ownership of outcomes, define opportunities, and deliver measurable results.
- A background in software development or testing, with knowledge of the platforms we rely on to deliver customer value, such as web and mobile technologies, communication platforms, cloud platforms, and developer experience platforms (preferred).
- A results-oriented mindset, with a demonstrated ability to achieve significant outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly, listen attentively, and proactively enhance team communication.
