    Description

About the Company FMG is New Zealand's leading rural insurer, proudly 100% owned and operated. As a mutual organization, we reinvest our profits to benefit our clients and communities. Our core values—Do What's Right, Make It Happen, We're In It Together, and Proud of Who We Are—guide our actions and decisions. About the Role We are excited to announce a new initiative aimed at embedding risk capability directly within our First Line of Defence business units. We are seeking Risk Specialists who will play a pivotal role in this initiative, enhancing FMG's risk maturity by placing dedicated risk expertise where it is needed most: at the front line. As a Risk Specialist - Claims, you will work closely with our operational and delivery teams within the Claims department. Your primary responsibilities will include helping teams identify, measure, manage, monitor, and report on risk. While you will be supported by FMG's Second Line of Defence Risk Team, your main focus will be on empowering the business to own and manage its risks with confidence and competence. What You Will Be Doing In this role, you will lead the delivery of FMG's Risk Control and Self-Assessment (RCSA) process within the Business Information Services (BIS) division. Your key tasks will include facilitating risk assessments, supporting teams in identifying and testing controls, and managing risk incidents, which involve triage, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. You will oversee the use of FMG's risk tool, Resolver, to ensure that risks and controls are accurately captured and maintained. Additionally, you will provide practical advice and tools to enhance risk awareness and capability within the organization. You will also contribute to FMG's Operational Risk and Compliance Committee (ORCC) through reporting and insights. What You Will Bring We are looking for candidates with experience in managing risk, and an understanding of the insurance industry, particularly in Claims, would be advantageous. To thrive in this embedded role, you should possess the following skills: Facilitation and Collaboration - You will run workshops, consult widely, and work cross-functionally, creating inclusive and productive discussions that build consensus in diverse groups. Relationship Building and Influence - You can establish trust and influence leadership teams, process owners, and control owners without formal authority. Emotional intelligence and diplomacy are essential. Critical Thinking and Curiosity - You are sharp and inquisitive, willing to challenge assumptions. You ask the critical "what ifs" that others may overlook and confidently interpret trends. Clarity in Communication - Whether logging risks in Resolver or presenting summaries to governance committees, you communicate clearly, structure your thoughts effectively, and tailor your messages to your audience. Resilience and Confidence Under Pressure - You maintain composure and professionalism in high-pressure discussions, particularly during escalations or governance conversations related to significant risks. Accountability and Judgment - You take ownership of your work, follow through on commitments, and exercise sound judgment when navigating ambiguity or recommending solutions. Why This Matters This initiative represents a significant advancement in how we manage risk at FMG. By embedding risk capability into the business rather than advising from the sidelines, we need individuals who are ready to embrace the challenge, build relationships, and make a meaningful impact. How to Apply If you are prepared to help shape FMG's risk culture from the front line, we encourage you to apply now with your CV and a brief cover letter. Please note that applications will close at 5 PM on Tuesday, August 5th.
