About the Role
We are currently seeking to appoint a permanent, full-time Lecturer (Pukenga) or Senior Lecturer (Pukenga Matua) in Construction within the Wellington Faculty of Architecture and Design Innovation (Te Wahanga Waihanga-Hoahoa). This position will report to the Head of the School of Architecture (Tumuaki - Te Kura Waihanga) and will be based at our Te Aro Campus.
This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of new Bachelor and Master of Construction programs, set to launch in 2026. We aim to create innovative construction degrees that integrate creativity, matauranga Māori, and digital innovation, preparing graduates to lead the transition toward sustainable and technologically advanced construction practices.
As a core academic in this initiative, you will have the chance to influence curriculum design, shape learning experiences, and contribute to a distinctive educational offering that reflects both local and global contexts.
We are looking for a candidate with experience in digital construction workflows, including:
- Building Information Modelling (BIM)
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in the built environment
- Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), including robotics
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in construction, digital tools, and contemporary construction technologies
- Advancing a relevant research program in areas such as digital construction, MMC, or AI-enabled workflows
- Supervising Master's and Doctoral students through to successful completion
- Contributing to leadership, academic service, and outreach within the university and the broader construction sector
- Developing strong relationships with industry partners, iwi, and external stakeholders to ensure that teaching and research are connected to professional practice
About You
We seek an early to mid-career academic or an experienced industry professional transitioning to academia, who is passionate about digital transformation in the construction sector. You value collaborative, interdisciplinary teaching and are committed to shaping a more sustainable and efficient built environment.
Key requirements for this position include:
- Demonstrated expertise in teaching or applying BIM, digital workflows, AI tools, or MMC in a construction context
- A doctoral degree in construction, engineering, architecture, or a related field, or a willingness to undertake doctoral studies
- A developing or established track record of scholarly research and a commitment to seeking research funding
- Ability to engage effectively with industry stakeholders, professional bodies, and community partners
- A commitment to working within Aotearoa New Zealand's cultural and environmental context, including engagement with Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Willingness to live and work in the Wellington region
