About the Role
We are currently seeking a practical and experienced Maintenance Engineer to join our team in Gisborne, supporting our debarking operations. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing plant machinery, ensuring that our operations run smoothly. You should be confident, well-organized, and comfortable working independently while also collaborating with your colleagues.
Your daily responsibilities will vary, including planned maintenance, addressing unexpected breakdowns, and making quick decisions to keep operations on track. When conventional solutions are insufficient, you will work alongside machinists or fabricators to develop effective engineering solutions.
What You Will Be Doing
- Maintaining and repairing debarking plant, machinery, and equipment
- Managing preventative maintenance, shutdowns, and consumables
- Troubleshooting mechanical faults and developing practical solutions
- Coordinating with operations, schedulers, and contractors to minimize downtime
- Keeping accurate maintenance records and safety documentation
What You Will Bring
- A minimum of 5 years of mechanical experience in industrial, forestry, or heavy plant environments
- A relevant trade qualification, preferably in mechanical engineering
- Proficiency in hydraulics, pneumatics, welding (Gas/Arc/MIG/TIG), and general engineering repairs
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- A proactive attitude and natural problem-solving abilities
