Description
About the Company
At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders, guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We believe in providing excellent healthcare and fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a qualified Health Care Assistant to join our team in Cambridge as part of the Supported Transfer and Accelerated Rehabilitation Team (START). This is a permanent, part-time position at 0.9 FTE, which equates to 72 hours per fortnight. The role involves rostered shifts from Monday to Sunday, between the hours of 07:00 and 20:30.
As a Health Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in promoting rehabilitation for older patients within their home environment. Our START service aims to reduce hospital bed pressure by preventing avoidable admissions, facilitating earlier discharges, and enhancing the overall quality of care for this demographic.
The service will extend to the rural areas surrounding Cambridge, including Te Awamutu, Paeroa, Morrinsville, Matamata, Tokoroa, and Te Aroha. A fleet vehicle will be provided for this role, as driving is a necessary component.

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Experience working in a community setting, preferably with older adults.
- Ability to assist with routine activities of daily living within patients' homes.
- Skills to coach rehabilitation activities and support interdisciplinary teams in achieving patient goals.
- Capacity to provide care as delegated by registered nurses or allied health professionals.
- Commitment to ongoing education and professional development.
- Strong teamwork skills and excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- A clean, full New Zealand driver’s license.
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or a commitment to learning and developing these skills.
