Description
About the Company
Cooke Howlison is the largest automotive group in Otago, proudly serving the community since 1895. We are dedicated to providing a supportive and well-equipped workshop environment where skilled professionals can excel in their roles.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Light Vehicle Mechanic to join our busy Isuzu Truck Workshop. If you take pride in your work, enjoy problem-solving, and thrive in a hands-on environment, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. In this role, you will be responsible for performing mechanical service and repair work to a high standard of quality and efficiency, ensuring customer satisfaction.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Your daily tasks will include diagnosing, servicing, and repairing light commercial vehicles, light plant, and trailers as assigned. You will support workshop operations by undertaking general mechanical duties and ensuring that parts are ordered from the Parts Department to facilitate efficient job completion.
You will also be responsible for completing all necessary paperwork, following the correct procedures for warranty work, and ensuring that warranty parts are properly tagged and stored. If you encounter challenging diagnoses, you should seek assistance from the Foreman and ensure that any additional work is approved before commencing. It is important to return vehicles in a clean condition post-repair and to take responsible care of all workshop tools.
You will communicate any issues or complaints to the foreman or manager and follow company procedures to protect the environment.
Customer Service
Providing clear and friendly communication to our customers is essential. You will be expected to organize and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring their needs are met.
Quality Control
You will assist in the continuous improvement of processes and procedures, ensuring that company policies and legal responsibilities are upheld. It is important to follow up on any issues within agreed timeframes and monitor your own workflow to meet all requirements. Your behavior and the quality of your work must always comply with the Company's Dealer Operating Standards (DOS).
Teamwork
We value a positive team environment, and you will be expected to contribute actively. Maintaining open communication with branch staff and building strong relationships with other departments, such as parts and sales, is essential. Being considerate and respectful to your colleagues while actively participating in meetings is also important.
Health & Safety
Each employee plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. You are expected to take reasonable care for your own health and safety, comply with instructions, and cooperate with safe work procedures. Early reporting of any discomfort and active participation in the company's treatment and rehabilitation plan for a safe return to work are crucial. All accidents, incidents, and unsafe conditions must be reported, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) should be used as required.
Requirements
To be successful in this position, you should be a highly motivated and skilled Mechanic with at least four years of industry experience. Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing vehicles is essential, and you must hold a WoF Certification. While Class 2/4 and F/OSH licenses are ideal, they are not mandatory.
Essential skills include good communication abilities and a strong customer service focus. You should be able to work well with a diverse range of people and demonstrate attention to detail.
Benefits
This is a full-time permanent position, with an expected work schedule of 45 hours per week from Monday to Friday, with the possibility of additional hours on Saturdays as approved. The pay rate ranges from $38.00 to $45.00 per hour, depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant.
