About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager for a fixed-term opportunity within our Whareroa Cool stores 1-8 replacement project, known as Project Koru. This two-year role, based at our Whareroa manufacturing site, offers a dynamic environment where you can enhance your health and safety career while making a significant impact on workplace safety.
In this position, you will report directly to the Project Manager and will have the autonomy to shape the role according to your vision, bringing innovative ideas to the table. You will be responsible for enhancing team capabilities and guiding project staff in implementing best practices in Health and Safety. This role does not have direct reports.
Your primary focus will be on the proactive management of risks, leading both strategic and tactical improvements, and elevating the business's understanding of health and safety procedures. As a trusted advisor, you will provide hands-on leadership and coaching to the project leadership team, driving continuous improvement and transformative change in our Health and Safety approach. Your daily responsibilities will include building effective relationships, sharing best practices, coaching and mentoring staff, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
About You
We are looking for a candidate with strong technical health and safety knowledge, along with the ability to coach, guide, and influence staff in best practices. Ideally, you will have a background in construction or operations, with experience in process safety.
You should be confident in presenting to large groups and have prior experience in people management or coaching. Your ability to build relationships will be crucial to your success in this role, and your resilience and proactive approach to managing expectations will be highly valued.
Critical skills and experience required:
- A relevant Health and Safety degree or diploma
- Significant experience in construction HSE management
- Experience in lead roles and conflict management
- Technical health and safety management expertise, understanding process safety or experience in major hazard facilities
- Ability to build trust across a diverse workforce and establish meaningful stakeholder relationships
- Proven track record in fostering a high-performing team culture and project environment
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with a history of maintaining positive relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders
