Description
About the Company
Tradestaff Global is a leading recruitment agency specializing in connecting skilled professionals with exciting job opportunities. We are currently seeking qualified and licensed electricians with commercial experience to work at McMurdo Station in Antarctica for the Summer 2025/26 season.
About the Role
This unique opportunity involves deployments from approximately October 2025 through March 2026. Working in Antarctica is not for the faint-hearted; you will be staying for several months in one of the most isolated yet stunning environments on the planet.
We are offering a competitive hourly rate of $66.11, with contracts paid on a fortnightly basis in New Zealand dollars for a standard 54-hour workweek. Additionally, we provide flights from any major New Zealand airport, food, shared accommodation, and travel insurance. All personal protective equipment (PPE) is supplied. This role is demanding but rewarding, allowing you to save money while gaining invaluable experience and forming lasting friendships. If you've ever dreamed of this adventure, we encourage you to apply.
Requirements
The work at McMurdo Station involves commercial electrical tasks, primarily up to medium voltage. Candidates with experience in fabricating metal conduit, data cabling, security systems, and fire alarms will have a distinct advantage. You should be comfortable with tasks ranging from reading electrical schematics to pulling wires and must hold a current New Zealand Electrical Practicing Licence.
If you have experience with any of the following, please highlight this in your CV:
- UPS battery systems and/or backup generator systems
- Telecoms
- Security system installation
- Switchgear and transformer wiring
- Fire alarms
Please note that due to travel restrictions, only New Zealand and US citizens with New Zealand or US passports who are currently and permanently residing and working in New Zealand are eligible to apply.
Candidates must also be willing to receive vaccinations for Flu, Tdap, and MMR. The roles are not 'fly in, fly out' (FIFO); you will be on-site for an extended period. Expect to work long hours, six days a week. Start dates are approximate and contingent upon passing medical and dental checks, obtaining security clearance, your notice period, and flight availability. A pre-employment drug and alcohol test is mandatory, and you must possess a Full Class 1 New Zealand Driver Licence and maintain a clean criminal record. The application process can be lengthy, so patience is essential. Additionally, candidates may need to travel to Tauranga for medical and dental exams, and we will cover the costs for testing and flights if traveling from outside the Bay of Plenty.
Benefits
To apply, please submit your CV online, detailing your commercial construction skills, experience, and the types of projects you have worked on. If your initial application is successful, we will reach out with further information regarding the interview and verification process. Candidates should be IT literate, have strong attention to detail, follow instructions, and manage complex paperwork effectively.
