About the Role
We are excited to invite you to join our dynamic and supportive pharmacy team at Waikato Hospital. In this full-time position, you will work 40 hours per week, focusing on providing high-quality pharmaceutical care within our oncology, haematology, and compounding service.
This rotational role offers you hands-on experience primarily within the oncology and haematology wards as well as our cytotoxic compounding unit. You will also have exposure to various other pharmacy areas, allowing you to enhance your skills and knowledge significantly.
Your contributions will have a direct impact on patient outcomes, particularly for those undergoing cancer, haematological, and immunotherapy treatments. We are committed to your professional growth and provide mentorship, ongoing training, and full funding for your Annual Practising Certificate (APC) along with contributions towards professional membership fees.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Deliver clinical pharmacy services in the oncology and haematology wards, which includes medication review, patient counselling, and participation in multidisciplinary team discussions.
- Work in our cytotoxic compounding unit, ensuring the safe preparation and quality control of chemotherapy and other hazardous medications.
- Contribute to the safe use of medicines team by participating in medication safety initiatives and clinical trials.
- Engage in professional and clinical development, supported by mentors and supervisors.
- Participate in occasional weekend shifts, with opportunities for the on-call roster, compensated with penal or overtime rates.
The salary for this position will be based on experience and aligned with the Te Whatu Ora/APEX Pharmacy Collective Agreement. Additional benefits include KiwiSaver contributions (if eligible), professional development support, and wellness programs.
About the Team/Service
The Te Whatu Ora Waikato Pharmacy Service provides comprehensive pharmacy services to Waikato Hospital and surrounding rural hospitals, focusing on high-quality patient care. Our team plays a vital role in the healthcare system, ensuring the safe use of medications across a wide range of clinical areas. As part of our team, you will support cutting-edge treatments and clinical trials, including work in our specialised cytotoxic compounding suite.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will need the following skills and experience:
Essential
- Registration with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand.
- A current Annual Practising Certificate with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand.
- While experience in oncology, haematology, and/or compounding services is desirable, we welcome applications from new graduates, including those with community pharmacy backgrounds.
Desirable
- Experience in oncology, haematology, or cytotoxic compounding.
- Hospital-level experience.
- A post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy.
- A current New Zealand driver's license.
