Senior Systems Engineer – Enterprise Services (Specialist roles in Microsoft Enterprise Platforms and Senior Linux Engineering) Salary: $80,984 – $113,805 per annum (based on skills and experience) Full-time, Permanent | Information Technology Services (ITS) About the Company Massey University is currently undergoing a digital transformation, and we are expanding our Technology team to support this journey. We seek two experienced professionals to fill the roles of Senior Systems Engineer – Enterprise Services, each with a specialized focus: one in Microsoft platforms and the other in Linux engineering. About the Role As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will provide subject matter expertise to foster innovation and enhance operational excellence. Your role will be pivotal in driving the evolution of our core platforms across one of New Zealand’s leading universities. You will contribute to the design and delivery of enterprise services, lead improvements, guide governance, and ensure the secure and sustainable operation of these services. We are looking for two specialists: Senior Systems Engineer – Power Platform / Microsoft 365 / Dynamics 365 In this role, you will leverage your extensive experience in administering and optimizing Microsoft 365 services, the Power Platform stack, and Dynamics 365. Key strengths we are looking for include: - Governance and operation of Power Platform and Dynamics 365 environments - Expertise in Power Apps, Power Automate, and API integration - Strong scripting skills using PowerShell - Knowledge of identity and access management (e.g., Entra ID, AD, MFA) - Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot and modern AI tools (desirable) Senior Linux Engineer – Enterprise Systems You will be responsible for the development, automation, and support of Massey’s Linux infrastructure and related enterprise services. Key strengths we seek include: - Deep experience in Linux systems administration (RHEL, Ubuntu, or similar) - Proficiency in scripting and automation (Bash, Python, Ansible, or Terraform) - Strong knowledge of containerization (Docker, Podman) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes preferred) - Familiarity with web hosting platforms (Apache, NGINX) and Linux-based enterprise tools (e.g., GitLab, Zabbix, Samba, OpenLDAP) - Exposure to cloud-native infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or hybrid environments) - Strong understanding of infrastructure security and patch management - Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling Who You Are We are looking for candidates with a minimum of five years of experience in a senior engineering role aligned with their specialization. A tertiary qualification in IT or relevant experience is preferred, along with experience in large-scale, hybrid enterprise environments. You should have the ability to collaborate effectively, lead technically, and mentor others, as well as a commitment to continuous improvement, service reliability, and automation.
