About the Role
We are excited to invite applications for the role of Medical Registrar at Tauranga Hospital, where you will gain high-quality clinical experience in a busy and diverse secondary care setting. This position offers a unique opportunity to work across a broad spectrum of medical specialties, including Acute General Medicine, Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Renal, Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases, Neurology, Oncology, Health in Ageing, Haematology, and Palliative Care.
We have 36 Medical Registrar positions available, which include two dedicated Advanced Trainee posts in Cardiology and Gastroenterology. The training year is organized into two six-month runs, allowing for comprehensive exposure to various specialties. Tauranga Hospital is a 326-bed facility with approximately 90 medical beds, 39 elderly/rehabilitation beds (including acute stroke), a 10-bed ICU, a 10-bed CCU, and a 28-bed Acute Assessment Unit. You will be part of a collegial, multidisciplinary team in a rewarding and fast-paced environment.
About the Team/Service
Our Department of Medicine at Tauranga Hospital comprises a dynamic and supportive team of over 30 consultants with expertise in a wide range of specialties, including General Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, and Respiratory Medicine, among others. Registrars collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, promoting a culture that values education, equity, and professional development. We prioritize regular teaching sessions, simulation training, and peer support, all while serving a diverse population and focusing on improving health outcomes for Māori and rural communities.
About You
As a Medical Registrar (Basic/Non-Trainee), we expect you to:
- Hold eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Have previous hospital experience at the registrar level, preferably in internal medicine
- Demonstrate strong teamwork and effective communication skills across disciplines
- Show a commitment to learning, development, and patient-centered care
- Possess cultural awareness and a passion for health equity, particularly in relation to Māori health
