Description
About the Company
Tradestaff Global is actively seeking expressions of interest from qualified and licensed electricians with commercial experience for an exciting opportunity at McMurdo Station in Antarctica during the Summer of 2025/26. This is a unique chance to work in one of the most isolated yet stunning locations on Earth.
About the Role
We anticipate deployments to occur from approximately October 2025 through March 2026. These roles are ideal for individuals who are not deterred by challenging environments and are ready to embrace the adventure of a lifetime.
We are offering a competitive compensation package, which includes flights from any major New Zealand airport, food, shared accommodation, and travel insurance. The pay rate is $66.11 per hour, contracted on a basis of 54 hours per week, with payments issued fortnightly in New Zealand dollars. All necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
While the work is demanding, it offers an opportunity to earn well, save money, gain invaluable experience, and forge lasting friendships. If you have always wanted to check this off your bucket list, this might be the perfect job for you.
Requirements
The construction work in Antarctica is unlike any other, requiring hard-working team players who are willing to contribute on various tasks. The primary focus will be on commercial electrical work, including up to medium voltage systems. Candidates with experience in fabricating metal conduit, data cabling, security systems, and fire alarms will have a distinct advantage.
You should be comfortable with tasks ranging from reading electrical schematics to pulling wires. A current New Zealand Electrical Practising Licence is essential. Additionally, if you have experience with any of the following, please highlight this in your CV:
- UPS battery systems and/or backup generator systems
- Telecoms
- Security system installation
- Switchgear and transformer wiring
- Fire alarms
Please note that due to travel restrictions, only New Zealand and US citizens with New Zealand or US passports who are currently and permanently residing and working in New Zealand are eligible to apply.
Vaccinations required include Flu, Tdap, and MMR. Candidates should be prepared for a lengthy on-site commitment, as these roles do not operate on a fly-in-fly-out basis. Expect to work long hours, six days a week. Start dates are approximate and contingent on passing medical and dental checks, obtaining security clearance, your notice period, and ice flight availability.
Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and hold a Full Class 1 NZ Driver Licence as well as a clean criminal record. The application process is extensive, so patience and diligence are key. Additionally, you will need to travel to Tauranga for medical and dental exams, with Tradestaff Global covering the costs of testing and flights if you are traveling from outside the Bay of Plenty.

To apply, please submit your application online along with an up-to-date CV that details your commercial construction skills, relevant experience, and types of commercial projects you have worked on.
