Whether it's finding a home, securing a job, purchasing a car, or growing a business, we aim to be the first place Kiwis turn to. Our vision encompasses both the significant and everyday aspects of life, from locating the perfect bedside table to decluttering by selling items no longer needed. About the Role We are currently seeking a Database Reliability Engineer to join our Database Squad. If you have experience managing cloud data platforms and a passion for optimizing performance, we would love to hear from you. The Database Squad plays a vital role in our success at Trade Me. We ensure that our core databases remain online, available, and performing well, providing Kiwis with a seamless experience on our platform. In this essential position within our broader Cloud Platforms team, you will contribute to securing our platforms, developing scalable solutions, and removing obstacles to empower our development teams. You will need to be an effective communicator, possess a proactive approach to problem-solving, and genuinely enjoy collaborating with various teams across Trade Me. Responsibilities In this role, you can expect to: - Build and maintain a scalable core data platform. - Ensure the reliability and availability of the data platform. - Adhere to best practices to guarantee data privacy and security. - Plan and implement changes inspired by DevOps methodologies. - Participate in the on-call team and respond to incidents affecting the data platform. Requirements To be successful in this role, you should bring the following qualifications and experience: - A minimum of 5 years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Server or similar database technology. - Proficiency in managing database infrastructure within public cloud environments, including Google Cloud and AWS. - Experience as part of a small on-call roster. - Sound knowledge of Windows Clustering and Windows Server operating systems. - Familiarity with Linux or Serverless applications is a plus. - A solid understanding of storage snapshot technologies and SQL Server high availability/disaster recovery (HA/DR) solutions. - Familiarity with cloud data services and their use cases. - Experience with other cloud-based or open-source relational database management systems (RDBMS) is advantageous. - Strong decision-making skills under pressure. - Excellent communication skills, both in-person and through collaboration tools. - A self-motivated attitude toward improving the platform. - A collaborative and transparent approach to problem-solving. - A strong team player mindset. Benefits We believe you will thrive at Trade Me for several reasons: Flexibility: We recognize that flexibility means different things to different individuals. We support you in finding what works best for you, including options for home office setups and utilities allowances. We also value team connection and come together in person on Mondays and at least one additional day each week. Wellness: We prioritize your physical and mental well-being, offering various resources to support you along your journey. Leave: We provide generous leave options, including five days of wellness leave each year and ten days of sick leave from day one. Social: We understand the importance of camaraderie and regularly organize social events. Enjoy company-paid lunches on payday, Friday drinks and snacks, and annual Trade Me awards and celebrations. Learning: From day one, you will have opportunities for growth through on-the-job training, formal training, mentoring, and other developmental resources. We understand that some candidates may hesitate to apply if they do not meet every qualification. If you are enthusiastic about this opportunity, we encourage you to submit your resume along with a brief cover note explaining your interest in the role. Trade Me is an INZ accredited employer. We genuinely value diversity and promote a flexible workplace where everyone is encouraged to reach their full potential.
