At Addington Hostel, we have been dedicated to providing housing for men in Christchurch for over 130 years. Our facility operates 24 hours a day with a team of Support Workers who play a vital role in the day and night operations. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment for our residents.
About the Role
We are seeking two casual Support Workers to join our team. This position will involve providing coverage for staff during holidays, sick leave, or training periods. The primary need for additional staff is during afternoon shifts, as well as night shifts and weekends. As a Support Worker, you will collaborate with your colleagues to address the daily needs of the hostel and the men residing here.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Allocating medication
- Assisting with food services
- Supporting residents in their recovery journey
- Ensuring the security of the site and its inhabitants
- Addressing the day-to-day needs of the hostel
Requirements
Our ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
- Completion of at least the Level 3 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (or an approved equivalent)
- Currently pursuing or having completed the Level 4 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (or an approved equivalent)
- A minimum of one year of experience in a support role within a related field such as housing, mental health, addictions, or corrections
- Comfort in working in an all-male hostel environment (though the majority of our staff are female)
- Availability to work evenings and weekends, which is when we will require additional support

This is a casual position, and hours will be assigned on an as-needed basis each week. The starting hourly rate for this role ranges from $26.94 (Level 3) to $29.10 (Level 4).
