About the Role
In this permanent, full-time position, you will become an integral part of a small, multi-disciplinary team focused on supporting children and adolescents experiencing acute distress and moderate to severe mental health impairments. Your responsibilities will include:
- Training and consulting with allied health professionals and community partners to deliver psychologically informed, evidence-based care that is both goal-directed and solution-focused.
- Assessing, formulating, and treating complex presentations that require specialized psychological expertise.
- Demonstrating a willingness to receive training in evidence-based treatments for eating disorders.
- Conducting assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder among adolescents with confidence.
- Performing risk assessments and implementing evidence-based short-term therapy interventions.
About the Team
Our Rural North Sector provides a range of secondary care mental health services across the Coromandel Peninsula and Hauraki region. Based at the Manaaki Centre in Thames, we also operate outreach clinics in various towns. Our team enjoys strong relationships with local non-governmental organizations and primary health organizations. As we look to recruit a skilled psychologist to meet the growing demand for mental health services, you will join a friendly and supportive environment while enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the Hauraki region, with major cities conveniently accessible.
About Thames
Thames Hospital is a modern 50-bed facility that offers a comprehensive range of services, including an emergency department, inpatient care, day surgery, and low-acuity mental health care. We have advanced laboratory and radiology services, including CT imaging. As an accredited training hub, we support medical students and junior doctors through various programs and offer continuing medical education opportunities. Telehealth services are expanding, enhancing outpatient clinics and inpatient care.
Thames is a charming town rich in history and natural beauty. About You
To be considered for this role, you must be:
- Registered with the NZ Psychology Board in a clinical capacity or eligible for registration.
- In possession of a current Annual Practising Certificate from the NZPB, or eligible to obtain one.
- Holding a full, current driver’s license.
- Competent in te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or committed to starting your learning journey.
- Experienced in applying the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in healthcare settings.
- Possessing strong interpersonal skills necessary for collaboration within a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating openness and professional respect.
- Experience with Infant, Child, and Adolescent Mental Health Services (ICAMHS) is preferred.
