About the Role We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Health Care Assistant within our 10-bed inpatient unit, part of the Mental Health Services for Older People team at Tauranga Hospital. In this role, you will support our team of Registered and Enrolled Nurses in delivering high-quality care to Tangata Whai Ora who are experiencing significant distress due to dementia or acute mental health challenges. The individuals we serve come from varied backgrounds and have unique life experiences. They are professionals, family members, and community contributors who are facing acute mental health conditions and/or dementia, which can range from early onset to severe cases. Our team is dedicated to providing compassionate assessment and treatment for conditions such as dementia, including behavioral and psychological challenges, as well as palliative care. This unit offers an excellent opportunity for you to develop a comprehensive range of physical and mental health nursing skills, as well as enhance your communication abilities when engaging with whanau. Family involvement is crucial in supporting their loved ones throughout their journey and after discharge. The service operates on a 24-hour rostered shift pattern, and you will need to be available for these rostered duties. We currently have two permanent positions available, with both full-time and part-time hours. In your cover letter, please specify the number of hours you wish to be considered for. About You To succeed in this role, you should possess strong communication skills, a calm and empathetic demeanor, and a flexible, creative approach to care. Resilience and the ability to thrive in a small team environment are essential. You will be instrumental in building rapport with patients, staff, and families by actively listening and demonstrating understanding, which significantly impacts our patients' needs and care.
