Description
About the Company
At Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori, also known as the Māori Language Commission, our mission is to normalize and revitalize te reo Māori as an official language. We are dedicated to promoting it as a standard means of communication and a vibrant language for all New Zealanders. Our goal is to create an environment in Aotearoa where everyone can celebrate and engage with te reo Māori as an essential part of our national identity—everywhere, every way, and every day.
We invite you to join the Māori language movement and contribute to shaping the future of te reo Māori.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Communications Advisor to become a part of our Communications and Promotions team, known as Te Toko Reo. This team serves as the voice of Te Taura Whiri, leading efforts in strategic communications, organizing key events, managing engaging digital platforms, and fostering connections across Te Whare o te Reo Mauriora.
In this role, you will take charge of delivering both internal and external communications. We are looking for someone who is well-established in their communications career and possesses a wide range of generalist communications skills, with a strong desire to work in a kaupapa Māori environment.
About You
The ideal candidate will have at least seven years of experience in communications or similar roles. While fluency in te reo Māori is a significant advantage, we prioritize excellence in communications above all. You will be joining a diverse team of reo Māori speakers with varying levels of proficiency.
As a Principal Communications Advisor, you will:
- Utilize your experience to craft solutions for complex communications challenges.
- Occasionally work outside of standard hours during peak times, such as Te Wiki o te Reo Māori in September.
- Coach and mentor team members to enhance our collective communications expertise.
- Bring innovative solutions and a commitment to getting the job done right the first time.
- Ideally, have a background in event management.
Benefits
Joining our team offers you the chance to be part of a legacy that is shaping Aotearoa. You will work in a kaupapa Māori environment that provides a safe space for you to use and grow your reo Māori skills.
We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. If you are enthusiastic about this role but feel your experience does not perfectly match every requirement, we encourage you to apply regardless.
The salary range for this position is between $95,000 and $125,000, depending on experience, along with KiwiSaver contributions and a te reo Māori allowance based on Level Finder Examination.
