About the Role
We are currently seeking a reliable and flexible Class 5 Driver to join our team in Palmerston North. In this position, you will be the friendly face of our business, responsible for delivering chilled and frozen freight while providing outstanding service to our customers and their clients.
Your responsibilities will include making deliveries and pick-ups across various locations in the lower North Island, performing yard duties, and engaging in manual lifting and hand unloading of goods. You will also be tasked with checking temperature settings, ensuring documentation accuracy, and completing daily vehicle checks. The potential earning for this role is up to $34.20 per hour, which includes KPI bonuses.
Key accountabilities of this role encompass:
Service Delivery & Operational Excellence
- Follow established processes and complete necessary documentation to ensure pre-trip checks are conducted accurately and the correct temperature is set and monitored.
- Safely load and unload freight according to company and client requirements while adhering to weight limits.
- Manage your time effectively to ensure timely service delivery.
- Plan routes to guarantee the most cost-effective and efficient delivery and pick-up of freight.
- Communicate and resolve any issues or incidents that could impact service delivery promptly.
- Complete and submit required paperwork, such as Proof of Delivery (POD) documents.
- Perform regular temperature probes of goods in transit, adjust temperature settings as needed, and promptly inform your supervisor of any concerns.
Vehicle & Equipment Use
- Conduct pre-start checks to ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy and fit for purpose, including mechanical checks for tires, oil, and fuel.
- Verify that there are sufficient Road User Charges (RUCs) for both the truck and trailer to complete your shift.
- Confirm that the truck and trailer have current Certificates of Fitness (COF) and registration.
- Report any maintenance or repair issues to the Transport Manager without delay.
- Use all equipment safely and efficiently, minimizing wear and tear while driving.
- Ensure that the vehicle is washed, the cab is clean, personal items are removed, and garbage is disposed of before the end of each shift.
- Leave the vehicle with adequate fuel and AdBlue for the next shift upon completion of your duties.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A full and clean Class 5 license, with a minimum of 12 months of New Zealand Class 5 driving experience.
- Previous experience in refrigerated transport.
- Strong geographical knowledge of the Manawatu, Wellington, and New Plymouth regions.
- Familiarity with Eroad and TruckMate systems.
- A commitment to working Monday through Friday, with the occasional Saturday every six weeks, starting at 4 am for an expected 10-12 hour shift.
