Description
About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to advancing healthcare in New Zealand, guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our mission is to create a health system that serves the diverse needs of all New Zealanders.
About the Role
We are on the lookout for a compassionate and skilled Hand Therapist to join our dedicated team at Waikato Hospital. In this part-time role, you will be instrumental in helping patients recover their independence and enhance their quality of life following hand and upper limb injuries or surgeries. This is a fantastic opportunity for a therapist who is passionate about rehabilitation and is eager to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
You will be working in a supportive environment where your expertise is recognized, and you will have opportunities for professional growth while providing high-quality care to our patients. While we ideally seek an experienced hand therapist, we are also open to considering occupational therapists and physiotherapists who have relevant experience in hand assessment and treatment.
About the Team/Service
You will be based at the Meade Clinical Centre on the Waikato Hospital campus, with potential opportunities to visit our rural hospitals to provide clinical support. As part of a tertiary hospital trauma service, we handle a diverse range of complex injuries. Our team enjoys close collaboration with plastic and orthopaedic surgeons, and we value individuals who appreciate the importance of teamwork.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will need to hold a registration and current annual practicing certificate (or be in the process of obtaining one) with either Te Poari Whakaora Ngangahau o Aotearoa or Te Poari Tiaki Tinana o Aotearoa (the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand or the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand). Ideally, you will also be a Registered or Associate Member of Hand Therapy New Zealand.
We are looking for someone who embodies our values of Whakamana (Give and earn respect), Whakarongo (Listen to me; talk to me), Mauri Pai (Fair Play), Whakapakari (Growing the good), and Kotahitanga (Stronger Together). You should be committed to delivering excellent clinical and business outcomes through quality service and empathetic patient care.
A solid understanding of upper limb anatomy, from fingertip to cervical spine, is essential. Experience supervising students and junior practitioners is preferred but not mandatory. You should be capable of working autonomously, conducting comprehensive clinical assessments, and employing adult teaching principles to engage health consumers. Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills are also vital for this role. A full, clean New Zealand driver's license is required.
