About the Role
We are currently seeking a Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our team in the Emergency Department and High Dependency Unit at Wairau Hospital. This role involves working various shifts throughout the week, including mornings, afternoons, and nights, from Monday to Sunday.
As a Health Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our nursing staff in delivering high-quality care to our patients and their whanau. Your responsibilities will include assisting with patient care, conducting one-to-one patient watches, and performing other tasks as directed by the nursing team.

About You
We are looking for individuals with a mature perspective, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent communication abilities. The ideal candidate will be flexible, methodical, honest, and reliable, with a proactive approach to their work. While previous healthcare experience is preferred, it is not essential, as we provide comprehensive training for all new team members.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Year 11 NCEA Level 1 English (or equivalent)
- Year 11 NCEA Level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
- NZQA Level 3 qualification (or equivalent)
Desirable:
- Home Carer Certificate (or equivalent)
Mandatory Requirement:
If you do not already possess the NZQA Level 3: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand, you will be required to commence this qualification after attending orientation.
